Best FPS Gaming Mouse?
« on: March 05, 2010, 03:25:49 PM »
Well I'm gonna open up the age old discussion on our forums and pray for no flaming or ignorant comments lol.

What mouse will give the greatest accuracy and response?

I'm getting a new mouse this week (finally). I have narrowed down my choice somewhat:

Logitech G500
(ALL the buttons I like and rely on from my previous G5 that I really grokked, reliable new gen lazer)

Razor DeathAdder 3G [1800dpi]
Razor DeathAdder 3.5G [3500dpi]
(The question is which is better in terms of accuracy and response, and reliable... there are issues with the 3.5G IR sensors, the 3.5 also has synapse memory too though and that's a plus)

Razor Mamba
(The only wireless mouse I trust, plus most all the buttons I like, but $$$)

SteelSeries Xai
(Killer freaking mouse with excellent lazer, probably the best memory implementation, many of the button I like.)

SteelSeries Ikari
(Lazer and Optical versions, only considering either one IF either is more accurate or more responsive than the Xai)

Unless the older DeathAdder or Optical Ikari are better in accuracy...
then the real final contenders are:

-G500
-DeathAdder 3.5G
-Xai

So you know what king of gamer I am:
I play at mid resolution and switch between high, mid, and low. I actually switch between claw and palm sometimes, but I lean more towards palm and arm movements, however I claw at low-med for accuracy shots. I loved the grip of the G5 and rarely had cramps. My resolution settings were 2000, 1200, 400; or 1800, 800, 400. Depending on the game. I think I probably most often used palm style low-med res at 800-1200 cpi with my in-game sensitivity between 1 and 2. I wouldn't mind playing at 2400 cpi @ 1sens (probably). But I doubt I would go much higher until I can afford to upgrade my display. I currently always game at 1280x1024.

My main concern is accuracy and response because once I choose one I am going to make it an extension of myself, like I did with my G5. Which is why I am considering just getting the older DeathAdder because it benchmarked the best (to the best of my knowledge). Like I said... I don't need super high dpi/cpi because I only game at 1280x1024 at the highest and am not really a dedicated high-res mouser / claw style (although I wouldn't mind training that skill because I bet it's easier to keep muscle memory gaming that way).

Anyone have experience with any of these mice? Know any great reviews that compare or benchmark them? Have any relevant experience with these brands? (I am aware of the the Logitech GX braided cord issues obviously as that is why my G5 is out of commission.)

Thanks!

Aloha =)

There is absolutely NO objective information it that post that helps me AT ALL to make a decision lol. When I hear comments like that I actually tend to think "Fan Boy/Girl" and just avoid the product because it means it must not be good enough for the person to actually be able to list a single strength. lol

No offense intended. I do really appreciate you sharing your opinion and advice, but you know me... I know my hardware, I know the friggin names of the chips in the mice... so simply saying "this one!" without at least a unbiased objective review tells me nothing that 500 forums tell me online with a simple google search lol.

I do know that you are a very talented player so if you tell me WHY you love it, it will likely influence my decision greatly. ;)

In my opinion the best FPS gaming mouse is a mouse that works. i'd rather have a mouse that works and that i can kill with than a fancy mouse

Another Question is which do you think is more accurate? The DeathAdder 3G or DeathAdder 3.5G?

I use a 20$ Logitech from Target.  I've killed MaxClark numerous times with it.  I think that's good enough objective information, right Kauai?

I decided on a whim and got the Imperator! Better than the DeathAdder 3.5G because it's also got integrated memory and the ergonomics I'm used to from my G5. I was totally sold on the Xai for a while but with the driver issues and supported issues with W764b, I decided to give Razor a try. I might get the Xai in a year if the firmware and driver issues get solved.

I am NOT happy to have given up my horizontal scrolling (I used the hell outta those in games, especially in PR, and COD4). But I'll learn to adjust.

I'll let you know how it turns out after I try it out for a few days.

BTW, I'm convinced the best mouse for the $ is the MX518. But if you lift a lot, then the Xai is probably perfect for you if you can afford it. It has excellent clearance.
