Launch option for multi-core machines.
« on: May 04, 2010, 10:59:16 AM »
If you have a dual core or more processor you can get a boost in Insurgency performance with the following:

Go to your steam games list,
Right click on Insurgency and select "Properties"
Click on "Set Launch Options"
Then in the text field enter "mat_queue_mode X" (without the quotes) Where "X" is the number of cores in your processor

Example:
for a dual core processor enter: mat_queue_mode 2
for a quad core processor enter: mat_queue_mode 4

Enjoy! =D

Oh.  No boost for me.  Anyways, is INS on the orange box?  I forget, because apparently that command really only works with orange box'd games.

I'll have to see what my FPS is, but It's a noticeable improvement to my gameplay.

No, it's still on the ep1 / hl2 engine.  A good way to tell is going to your video options and look at detail (cant remember which one specifically) and if it has the option for "Very High", then it's orange box and OB has motion blur too! ;)

Also I didn't notice much of an improvement but I'll take a guess and say since I don't have a core 2 duo type of dual core that's why.

Yeah but it's all backwards compatible anyway... it may no be written for the OB engine and take advantage of all it's advancements, but client side likely uses the engine. But I'm not sure really, only a guess from what I already know about the engines. =P  All I know is that I went from 60-200 fps to 60-300fps when I put the command in. But maybe that was a fluke?

After some researching...I don't understand why this "works" in INS at all.  ESPECIALLY since the command for it in other games is only "0" and "1", not dependent on how many cores you have.

This command was fully implemented with the orange box engine...you can type mat_que... into the console of orange box games and it'll pop up..but not insurgency.  Insurgency is running on a build of the source engine from 2004.  In orange box games I have used this one, I get around 10% FPS boost..not insurgency.  I think "results" garnered from this in the current release of INS are unrelated - or it's some sloppy half-implementation that is there for some reason.

I changed my AA from 16xQ to 16x and got a 40 fps increase pulling 70 instead of 30 and then inside building it jumps to 150ish
