Intro Video to Island War 2.0

Island War 2.0 - Teamwork

Island War 2.0 - Outgunned and Outnumbered

Quote
COOP GAMES

When playing the campaign cooperatively, the game does not save checkpoints like it does in singleplayer. However, the mission specific checkpoint file is still saved into your games root folder. If you wish to play the mission on several occasions, and continue from where you left of, you must create a text file in the games install folder called 'restart.iw2'. If you have this file present, when you next start up the COOP game, you will still start in the boats west of Taranay, however all the locations you had captured in the last game will immediately be under your control. See Emergency Restart for more information

IN GAME MESSAGES

Many times throughout the game will get messages appear at the bottom of the screen updating you as to what is going on. As you get near a location, a message will pop up letting you know which location is nearby, and when you are close enough, who controls that location. You will also get updates when locations are captured or lost, and the status of mortar positions and air strikes when you have access to these. Every few minutes you will also get an update as to the overall progress of the mission, in the form of a percentage of control.

HOW TO WIN!

To complete this mission, the US forces must control all 96 locations accross Skira for at least 2.5 minutes.

SAVING AND LOADING

There are two situation in which the game will save for you. If you are at a location when it is captured by the US forces, the game will save automatically.
If you are not at a location for up to 5 minutes, the game will automatically save a checkpoint providing that no enemies are nearby. If there are enemies near you, the game will wait until you are clear of enemies before saving.
When you load a from a checkpoint, you will start with temporary invulnerability, this will wear off after a few seconds!

EMERGENCY RESTARTS

There may be times during your campaign when the save game becomes corrupted, or some other event happens that prevents you from continuuing to play the game. If this happens, there is now a way for you to continue from where you left off when you restart the campaign.

In your games Installation folder (see above) there is a file called "IslandWar2.chk" this is a special save file created by the mission that stores the current state of the island, and all units and vehicles in it. Even though your save game may be corrupt, this file will not be.

If you create a new text document called "restart.iw2" in the games install folder along side this file, the next time you start a new campaign game, the mission will load the current status of all locations accross the island from the "IslandWar2.chk" file. So if you controlled 50% of the island before, when you start again in the boats, you will still control 50% of the island.

If you do this, once you reach land you will need to aquire a vehicle and travel back to the front lines to continue, but it is alot quicker than having to start from scratch again!

MORTARS

There are 2 locations on the island which contain mortar guns, once you capture these locations, the mortars will then become available to you. Until then, they are available to the PLA forces!
A mortar location has several restrictions which you must keep in mind, the first is ammunition. Each mortar location only has a set number of ammunition avialable, once it runs out, thats it!
Mortar range is not infinite, they can fire up to around 5km's from there location
Finally it takes time to reload the mortar guns, when you order a strike, you will have to wait a few minutes before you can order another one.

AIR STRIKES

In order to call in air strikes, you need to capture and hold more than one location at the same time. Both Radio Relay Stations, the Radio Tower itself and the Airport must be under the control of the US forces for you to use it.
Once you capture these locations, you will then be able to order air strikes.
Unlike Mortars, Air Strikes have unlimited ammunition, however the Air Strike Jet itself only carries a small number of missiles at a time. Two Large missiles and one JDAM. Once you have ordered a strike with all 3 missiles, the Jet will return to refuel and rearm. This takes time and you will not be able to call in any more strikes until the Jet is ready.

stuff you need:
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising ver 1.02 (doesnt matter if its on steam, pirated or bought from some other place, you can still co-op)

from the site: Island War 2-0 Rev 2-5 Full Campaign
This is the FULL main campaign, it includes the intro movie and the mission itself.

Island War Assistant
This is the Island War 2.0 Assistant Utility, which can be run alongside the game to see the status of all the locations on the Island. Simply place it in the Games install folder, and run it when you are playing Island War. (Press F1 for full help)

Island War 2-0 Manual.zip (not yet updated to Rev 2.5)
The Manual for Island War which contains all the information here, plus a few extra bits!
Consult this document for for a complete listing of all features!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

likes and dislikes so far (~30 min gameplay)

likes:the concept (that works GREAT), the awesome beach invasion and the cqc Taranay village assault right after that with really many soldiers (you will be able to lead your own squad, but if a squad leader of another squad dies you get people from that squad to your squad), highly deadly bullets, AI improvements (sighting distance up to 1km, ability to snipe and use sniper rifles like the barrett, actually looking for and using cover now, faster reaction time, faster engage or assault order following), alot more radio chatter and new things that the bots say, so called savegames even on co-op :D

dislikes: each time you load a savegame you'll start from the boats and will be transported to the island (which is actually quite awesome considering that most of the times you need to load a save is when you die so it makes sense that they send reinforcements)

*update on my thoughts about this mod/map

there seem to be no restrictions of how far can you go from your teammates
i noticed it by attacking 2 seperate places at the same time (they had about 30 clicks of distance between them)
i really hope its like that in co-op aswell
but sadly the map/mod is too recource demanding for my pc so i bsod due to overheating (error 0x00000124 google didnt help so my best guess is overheating) approximately every 30 minutes when i play it
BUT it has saves that work in co-op aswell, so in my opinion its still worth a try

i'll be home until sunday 2pm EST

suggestion: you can create an island war contest (long lasting of course) with 2 or more teams with 2 or more players in each team

how: everyone times the length of their matches because its impossible to finish the whole map in one run, the battles need to be timed individually (from the beginning of landing to the time you stop playing) and then added to each other to get the time it took for them to capture all points on the island (there's 96 of them)

the matches don't have to happen at the same time, and you can continue where you left off because of the island war map/mod's saving feature (saves after every capture, or after every 5 minutes when there are no enemies around)

winner is the team who captures the whole island faster

rules:
1# no cheating, even though this contest is very much based on honesty because there is no one else who can time your matches
2# map difficulty: hardcore, if its too hard for all the teams then consult with each other to select another difficulty
3# 2-4 human players per team, infinite amount of teams
4# use tactics (this is actually more of a suggestion for staying alive to be honest xD)

things you can but don't have to do:
you can ask for your friends outside of LMC who have Operation Flashpoint 2 to participate in this

I'll install it... I'll have much more time to play OFDR when the TDB tourney is over. My Summers are always crazy busy too (with Nai going out of country and all that jazz).

island war 2.0 toned down
AKA something between white fang and IW2

East 2 West (AKA the long-ass battle)

http://community.codemasters.com/forum/operation-flashpoint-dragon-rising-game-pc-113/406561-rel-east-2-west-long-battle.html

This is basically Operation White Fang on steroids!
You start at the base of the volcano in the East, and must travel to the Airport in the west and capture it. Thats it

This Campaign should take you around 8-10 hours to complete, which is about 24 hours in-game, or a full day cycle and then some.

There is the possibility that the battle will move across a total of 14 different paths, splitting at crossroads over the island.

THINGS TO NOTE :

    * The game saves every 5 minutes, and each time you push the PLA back a bit, giving plenty of save points for you.
    * The start area ammo crates will despawn the second you walk away from them, just go back to where they were for them to respawn all fresh and full.
    * Ammo crates are located at many points, but get used to the idea of scrounging weapons. due to the number of deaths you will witness, dead bodies is no problem. and the veriety of weapons that can be found will satisfy most (snipers, MGs, marksman, assault, qcb, at, aa)
    * In order to allow such a long battle, some compromises had to be made. only the last 5 vehicle wrecks will hang around, the others will slowly dissapear over time, the more wrecks, the quicker they are removed.

*EDIT!!!! theres an island war 2.nextversionnumberhere coming :D:D:D
from what ive read from the forums the things done are:

* fixed many bugs with the bot/vehicle spawning system
* added flags known from IW1 to bigger places (mologa and the airfield) to spawn certain vehicles (not all of them) and to replace dead squad mates (who otherwise wont respawn)
* hes working on a no max range from squad leader thing
