Steam Problems
« on: August 28, 2010, 07:21:01 AM »
So, I was unlucky enough to find out that steam is a pile of junk and their Support is completely worthless, they don't answer anything they just redirect you to their FAQs and Support pages, that obviously I checked out before I contacted Support, then they go and delete my question after I start actually getting somewhere towards an answer.... I hate Steam....

OK, Back on topic lol

So my problem with steam besides theres a bunch of idiots running it is I have constant Steam Connection Lost or No Steam Logon problems during games.
I've been on 3 diffrent networks and they have all given me the same results, Some Logon or Connection error. So Its not my internet connection or Router, because i've tried forwarding ports and everything else and nothing helps, so i'm not sure if anyone had any ideas of what i could attempt or a way I could fix this problem.

Next Problem:

My mic, works great in Ventrilo, Teamspeak, and for mucks and giggles I decided to try Yahoo Messenger's voice chat, that also works, I can test my mic on steam (Settings>Voice) and it works fine, but if i test it in-game it shows its active with a single green bar, but I can't hear anything and neither can in-game players, Doesn't matter what game i'm in or what server, I've tried all my games and their the same except for DOD:S, that actually works for some reason  ???, I don't know, i've searched and searched..... and searched and i can't seem to find an answer to the problem. Oh yah and before i completely blame steam for my mic problem also my mic doesn't work in BF2 either.....

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks again,

I can help with BF2 I had the same problem. I am sure you have tried this but my mic problem was with vent and BF2. If i did not run vent and even ts as adminastrator. Plus the game, I could not talk in game using vent. Now going off that I bet if you run the game and the voice program both as adminastrator it could fix your prob. As for steam in game voice no idea about that one but this is the only suggestion i have for BF2. Also remember BF2 servers have to us a seperate voice program for voice to work in game. Problem could be server side in those cases. Me and five and shroomy have had some trouble in PR servers off and on.

Steam is infamous for having issues with microphones. Try messing with the mic settings, check your audio drivers and directX. Like Gan has mentioned you can try making sure Steam is run as administrator. I'll post here if I find a solution on the net. I too have been looking for the source of those issues.

Dude, I think there  are certain files you could delete out of steam so that it automatically updates itself after a restart.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
