DODS Squad formation
« on: September 06, 2010, 08:55:27 AM »
PUtting it on hold for now we will be doing a LMC team for DODS everyone welcome to come and practice and play. No competitions until we have had a chance to evaluate LMC skill level and once we are comfortable that we can kick some butt we will start scriming. And go from there on a squad if we feel (LEADERS and Officers) That we can hold our own, Like we do in INS. I will set up some times to get together and work together to get better.
I am on every morning during the week Mon-Fri. lets say 10am est, 7am Pacific.  Monday is Project Reality day. Also I am up at 7am est and on tell noon I will try and remeber to log onto TS.

So to clarify... we will be trying to get the DODS "LMC Community Team" going. There is a community team by default for any game. The team plays by a first-come first-serve basis for competition. There are no official team leaders on a community team (the highest ranking ensures adherence to the LMC Code, and the tactical commander is voted each round) and there are no real practices per-se.

But Gen will be to organizing so-called "practices" as events, since the leaders were not unanimous that LMC was ready for a DODS team. These will essentially be get-togethers that will likely officially be private (LMC Members only) "DODS teamwork events" led by Gen or Five-O most likely. From what I know of what they have told me, the emphasis will be on learning maps, increasing skill, practicing teamwork, and having fun!

While I fully support this idea, I'm not sure DOD:S is the best choice of game to have a team on. There really is not much of a place for tactics or strategy, unless you count MG placement and and different people covering different areas. Its a very arcadey sort of game, and much of what determines how good you are, how many kills you get, how many times you die, is just luck. I can't tell you how many times I've been killed because I had a cone of fire. Sure I can use controlled bursts, but the bullets will often not go where I want. Even if you get the drop on them, its still iffy. My point is, taking this game seriously may take some work. So if we truly want a community team or an official one, we have to change the way we play DOD:S.  Most people (including myself) will just run out into bullets with no regard or care. So I think until we change how we think of the game itself, (take it semi-seriously) I don't think a team will be successful.

But taking all that into consideration is where it gets tactical. =)  Come to the practice and I'm sure you'll see it in new eyes. All games can be tactical. A truly tactical game (in my opinion), however, is one that rewards tactical play [meaning that you'll generally do much better when playing it tactically]. Ture... people don't play DOD:S tactically in pubs, but I bet that there is a lot of teamwork in competitive play.
