Minecraft Server

I would just like to know the community interest in Minecraft. I feel like if enough people would agree that we should start a LMC Minecraft sever for players to come in a establish a well built community. I personally like the time off of competition so being able to relax in Minecraft on the side would be something fun for everyone who plays it to do. It would be a great way to combine a collaboration of works. Like I said its just a push effort to try to get something started so any reply's are appreciated.

I thought this sounded like a promising idea.  I am not to versed on the game and community though.  I think some of us here have played Minecraft for sure.  I am all for keeping this option open if it is viable.

I play minecraft a lot, and its very fun to just go on and mess around with friends. And for being viable all it takes is like 2 gb of open RAM on a computer to keep a server up and running

well it is for the 1.8.1 version and I don't know of any mods that work for this yet. I am sort of new to minecraft too so I don't know all of the mods and junk.

I would prefer it be bukkit whoever may eventually make a community sever. And yeah so im glad a few people may be interested getting this started up.

Yeah, it would have to be Bukkit. I could find some plugins for server control and maybe even some to add other features to add more fun to it.

This plugin is a really good base to start off of. http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/admincmd/. It allows the use of multiple commands used to control servers, and even includes some fun ones like being able to make lightning strike the ground where you want

seems like you do know the main mods all i recommend like levi said is worldedit. Other than that a day mod is nice too. But thats not nearly as important as just getting the server first!

The other mod i recommended includes commands to make it day and stop storms along with a lot of other things

Are some of the mods rendered redundant now? For instance, I can switch the game mode for any player in my server to the new creative mode and it allows you to fly and have an infinite number of every item in the game plus instant break block.

Yeah, but it requires a pretty long command compared to some of the others and you can't limit them to flight or such like you can with commands.

for example switching the mode requires the command /gamemode playername mode where 0 = creative and 1 = survival

compared to some of the commands included in the mod i listed where you could just put /fly and be able to fly or /i itemcode to get a needed item and with the worldedit for autobreak all it requires is a pickaxe and the command //

plus if you want to keep the survival feel with these commands people can still die, where in creative they can't

so really it just matters on what you want people to be able to do. Bukkit is good because it even allows you to set permissions within the server so people can only use certain commands.
