Linux (Ubuntu)
« on: December 30, 2016, 11:32:10 am »
Why the hell didn't I know how amazing Linux was all this time? I feel robbed and have been a slave to windows for years now.

Easy to install, simple and easy to work with, sleek and very effective.  It is (no bs), the easiest OS to install and its free! Oh the headaches I could've saved myself had I been more adventurous.

It is easy to not want to try it, but I installed it on an old thinkpad, i5 with 16 gigs of ram $130 on ebay, dropped in a ssd, and wow, it is pretty amazing.  I also have it runnng on a virtual machine on my main windows machine, so that I can run dedicated services off the virtual machine now.

Pretty great! I blame the Microsoft propaganda machine! If you haven't tried it, at the very least, download VMware and Ubuntu and install a virtual machine on your computer, which is essentially like having a separate computer within your computer if you didn't know.

It is super easy to do this and I encourage you to do so to try it.

This is what I use to get my gnu fix on win https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/commandline/wsl/install_guide

Plus virtualbox + debian for dev environments to run daemons. And of course the obligatory ubuntu laptop because it's nice to have apure linuxmachine.

Yeah a good thinkpad on ebay +ssd and linux is so cheap now and makes a killer computer. I'm hoping vulkan really opens up linux gaming. Steam os has already done so much, and I'm hoping that by the time rizen arrives, the amd drivers will match the nvidia blobs in perf.

Cool. I was thinking of virtual box, but I had already set up Vmware. I might just create another one on my main machine just to compare.

Thanks for the info, dude!  :)
