Syrian Civil War

Some of you might know about Syria and the uprising there of its people against the dictatorship of President Assad.  A man that inherited his president-ship from his father and whose family dynasty has been ruling for almost half a century. 

Peaceful demonstrations fired upon by tanks and heavy weaponry and whole cities under siege by government forces have led to the death of around an estimated 13,000 to 15,000 civilians.

In response, over the last year, the armed resistance of the Syrian rebels has formed to battle those military forces.  They are getting more numbers everyday and more organized.  Still, they are no match for the heavily armed government forces.

Unfortunately the western media is not very fair in it's coverage. Our media is influenced by the military industrial complex. The media will try to convince people that war is needed. This has been going on since Vietnam and more notably with the recent Iraq war when the media drummed up charges that Saddam had WMDs which turned out to be false. Recently with Lybia, this was done but the media quickly ignored the aftermath of that war since it was taken over by AL-qaeda which of course would conflict with the message the Media is trying to deliver.

In Syria the biggest propaganda piece was the Houla Massacre which left women and children dead. Supposedly work of the current regime under Bashar al-Assad. Later it came out that it was actually the work of the rebel army. But this was conveniently ignored by the western media. Syria on Air: One-sided media spin behind insurgency trench warfare

All I know is that there is a military complex besieging its own cities.  My mind sifts through the propaganda.  I try to read in between the lines. Don't believe everything you are fed.

"Al Qaeda" is a global movement and less a cohesive organization.  Recently, they have taken control of cities and institutions in South Yemen.

Haven't heard much about them in Libya.  Mostly been hearing about combat between different tribes and militias here and there.


Stating "America is an Empire" doesn't really mean anything anymore.  Every country has its own agenda.  Russia, China, India, Israel, England, France, etc.  Though I will say that, at least in the west, I can generally join a peaceful demonstration without getting shelled.

Oh really? How many wars have these other countries been in in the last decade? What country comes anywhere close to the over 200 military bases the US has around the world? What country comes anywhere close to the amount of money spent on their military? The US wasn't always like this. After WWII we adopted an interventionist foreign policy and have now progressed to a full blown empire.

Don't get me wrong, I think the US has more going for it than these other countries. But I point out my country's faults because I love it and want to see it improve, not regress like it quickly is doing now.

the whole map of the middle east needs to be re drawn (and africa) anytime you see countries that have strait lines they are man made and the main focus of british forign policy the last 500 years is to lump 2 or more groups of peoples together that hate each other. this is the root of the civil wars that are part of the arab spring.

I've watched part of it, never had the time to finish it though. But just think about our American Civil War went.

4 year war that cost 214,938 lives in combat, 400K-500K lives in "others",  ~625,000 in total lives lost. And that was with muskets and canons.

Hope they get their freedom.

Russia is supplying arms and Hezbola who the Assad regiem has supported as there proxy in Lebenon are  now suppying troops

Syria is fractured for good. It will never the same whole country again.
