That's pretty good for gaming.  What more do you need?

Omni, with that internet his ping would either be 200, or would shootup to 200+. Hell, I bet his ping would be 3 or 4 hundred. Try playing counterstrike with 400 ping.

Zynx... latency is not directly related to bandwidth, they are different properties. If you look, his ping is 57.

Although speedtest.net says these numbers, I get at least 7 megabits when I'm download and sometimes even get 8.

Fortunate news for my isp is that they just released their "Unlimited Usage" so I can download anything I want pretty much.  Bad news is their fiber optics is 100 $ for a new modem and if it breaks you're SOL because they don't cover repair for that server - something to look at in the future but I don't have the funds to do so now.

Exactly, thats his png to his CLOSEST server. If he plays on a server on say the east coast he is going to have high ping.

No. Not necessarily. If you like I can point you to some books on networking.

How about instead of being antagonistic you kindly tell me why I'm wrong.

Sorry Zynx, I think you took my sincerity as patronization. I'm not saying you are wrong necessarily, without a study on his connection dynamics there's not telling exactly what's going on under the hood. I'm just saying that in networking things aren't as simple as you are making them out to be. Just because someone has a high latency to a specific close location does not mean that they will have very high latency to other locations. The routes, ISP switches/modems/technology, private network setup (NAT, internal routing and switching)... and much more goes into to diagnosing a network connection.

But if you a lot about networking I'd love for you to illuminate me on something I'm missing, or else maybe just explain your reasoning. =) Otherwise I was being sincere, I know of some good books if your interested, or I could try to find some good articles. I'm not a networking Guru, but I have studied networking for 15 years same as programming. So I know some stuff. ;)

I wasn't trying to antagonize you, only add accuracy to your technical statements so as to provide integrity to the thread and not mislead anyone potentially developing a warped perspective on networking , what latency and bandwidth are, and how it all relates.

I remember 28k dialup =P, and it seemed so fast too. =P

My favorite connection fun was using my palm pilot to connect via bluetooth to my cell phone, and then dial a free dial-up isp in NY (from Kauai), so I could have mobile internet lol. Slow as hell and it costed cell minutes, but OH was it nifty. =)
