ROG ARES II: dual HD 7970 (2 cards in one)
« on: June 14, 2013, 02:22:17 pm »
So I was checking FB when I saw an ad from ASUS and I saw the weirdest thing, the ROG ARES 2. It is a single card that has 2 HD 7970 gpu's and a whopping 6gb gddr5. It employs a unique air/water cooling method which they proclaim helps the card run at 31°C cooler performance than reference GTX 690. I personally have never heard about having two cards integrated in one. IS this new technology or just rather uncommon?

"ROG ARES II brings back otherworldly graphics might with dual Radeon™ HD 7970 GHz Edition GPUs and a massive 6GB GDDR5, all in a standard 2-slot height. The fastest card available, it introduces hybrid air and liquid cooling for relentless stability. Its power is controlled by DIGI+ VRM and Super Alloy Power components, with easy GPU Tweak card tuning"

Asus Product site:
http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/ARES26GD5/

It shows that it has been discontinued by Newegg and I haven't had time to look elsewhere.

Yeah I posted about this in the shoutbox like 2 months ago. They already came out with the 7990, 2 7970's in one. So this is really old news but meh whatever, still cool. It's just like a 690.

Also see this, http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=7990&N=-1&isNodeId=1

EDIT: To answer your question this is not new technology, they also have a 6990 which came out a long time ago that has 2 6970.
