Video Card advice
« on: October 02, 2013, 02:06:12 pm »
Hi, I hope I can get some good advice here.

I am planning on upgrading my video card to a Ati 7850. I was planning on waiting to buy it until after New Years, but I needed to sell my Ati Radeon 5770 on ebay sooner rather than later so I could get a good price on it, which was $51 by the way!  ;D  I WAS hoping for $60, but can't win them all I guess.

Anyone here have any experience with the 7850? It seems like a great card with an excellent rating.    I am hoping there are a handful of gamers here that have experience with this.

Thanks,

I have a 7850, I love it. I play games on high, and even some on ultra. Great card for the money.

Decided to buy the 7870 since the GPU runs over 1GHZ as opposed to the standard 860mhz of the 7850.  It was only about 17 dollars more.  I am hoping it was worth it.

Thanks for replying to me Zynx.  I appreciate your advice!  :)

those are great cards, though I think the 79x are better value. I want an nvidia this time around but those ATI cards are so damn good at this point. Better compute. I wish they had a solid S3D solution. Anyone know the current state of linux drivers for each?

Amd cards are getting a 50% boost with the kernel in linux, so I heard from the AMD facebook page.

My new video card is great.  By selling older components, I pretty much bought this card for $50.   ;D

Right on man! =) I'm gonna go for the 760 or 7950 I think. Still deliberating. So many choices, cuz also deciding on a C6100 (96vcores, 96GB ram). Plus whole new build. I only upgrade once every 5 years, so when I do I deliberate like crazy.

I'm getting a i5-3570k in a couple months, along with a asrock z77 mobo so I can overclock and crossfire if I want, though I will probably get a 780 before I crossfire my 7850

Actually going for a 3770k now, managed to cut back on the case cost and squeezed it in there.
