they are nice cards the 780ti but they cost too much for my tastes. i got this for £211 once i sold my old 7950 while i would of needed to spend another £125 on top of that for a 780ti. the few % more performance is not worth that much cash to me.

i cant hear this over my dcc pump at any time either.

That is a sweet card.  How long did you take before you pulled the trigger?  I spent over two months researching and primarily waiting for a good deal on my 7870 which I was able to get for a little more than $100 after rebates and selling my old ati 5700.

Yeah, but source is an outdated engine anyhoo, even if they updated it to a source plus version.  You can play Ins on a lot of low end cards from the little I know about it.

zynx they are still great cards for 1080 dude and i bet it would get dam near the same fps in ins that this or the 7950 did. but i got a higher res screen for my birthday this year and needed more gpu power for all other games not on source :(

cheers omni, once i worked out i could do it for such low cost to my wallet it took me maybe half a second? it is a 290x which cost me what a 290 should. it is 2nd hand and now 10 weeks old, it came with the invoice and i have known the guy for about 4 years should i really need help if the worst ever happened. he got it to mine on and it did mine for 4 weeks, 10/12 hours a day. but as it is not worth doing now with consumer hardware those who are still doing so are just wasting money. the real cash has been made and this is one miner moving on.

it was the last card he bought for his pc to game on and mine when he slept. his farm was full of 270 and 280 which have been hammered and i would not touch

i have been following the gpu market for years as tbh i love tech. i love gaming and gpu hardware is the catalyst for cgi and games. i was fine with my 7950, and for anybody on 1080 it is a laughing card which is plenty for that ers but once you go past 1200 to 1440 and 1600 it runs out opf memory bandwidth and jsut can not throw out the pixels. knowing what the issue was which was ham stringing my old card it made my next card one from a very narrow bunch.

i had the option of a 2nd card for sli or 1 new card with more power/as much as 2 7950. now sli would of required a new psu too as i only have a 600w unit in this as if i am honest i have never like sli in the past and kinda made it so when i was putting this together. not to mention all the 2nd hand 7950 out there have been smashed mining for their whole life xD

that just left me with the 290 or 780 based cards. they are both about to release dual core single pcb cards too if anyone is interested but they are not for me either, too hot imo.

then ian posted he would take £330 for it and i know i could get £124 cash for my old card no questions asked in cex it was almost half price you know :D

Yeah it runs 90% of the games I play at Ultra. Plus my resolution is only 1600x900 so that helps too. I like smaller screens  :)

Hmmm.  I'll have to pay more attention to the resolution of my 1080 stuff when I play it now.  All I know is that my 5770, though the best card I have ever owned in durability, versatility, and performance, is kind of blown away by the 7870.

Though, I am already starting to look into newer video cards.

5 series always seem to last a long time :p Great generation of cards. I'm looking into a 780 or 290 :p

Waiting for 800 series and project Denver myself. Until then my 760 is holding up fine but it struggles with s3D here and there.

omni i think the nvidia 750 ti would put most of the 5000 series to shame today and it does that without the need for more power than the 75w it can sip from the pcie slot.

nvidias maxwell chips are going to change the game if they ever get around to putting them on sale. they had been forced to on the low end as amd was killing them there. they just want to sell all the gk110 chips they have been making for the past 18 months first now. it could be xmas at the earliest now before they do the 880s.

now i have had a chance to really see what this can do all i can say is over the moon.

http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/8181452

i was comparing its stock speeds to my overclocked 7950 which was a tad unfair given that was getting +33% performance from its increased clocks. at stock the 290x is not light years ahead of it but once you fettle the 290x clocks it is just insane.

the 7950 would do this all day with just a slight hum from the fans.

12 is a nice score in 3dmark 11 for it so this only scoring 14.5 out the box i felt some remorse but once you get this up near 1200 (1180 to be precise) this things flies. 300 fps most of the time in source  bf3 120 fps, mins of 70fps on ultra @1440p crysis 2 is 75fp+ all the time at the same res.

really blown away!

if you would like to see what it can do with any tests let me know and i will try it :)
